I remember my high school Psychology teacher explaining that the human brain often overlooks information in the middle of something.

It's called "the serial position effect." As an example, he asked us to recall each other's phone numbers, (remember when we used to know them?!) and sure enough the theory held true.

We seem to do this in other parts of life as well. Firsts and lasts are easily imprinted on our overloaded minds. I've come to realize there's a magic in the middle of most things and none so important as middle life.

I think most people give in to disconcerting ideas about mid-life because our bodies are aging. But as I charge through the second half of my 50s, I feel convinced that for the average person most of what we'll encounter is manageable. We have more information than ever! From medicine to health & fitness to aesthetics; we have the insight, time, and money to address what ails us.

Consider this: the middle of our lives is truly the best time of our lives!

We have more time and money too. We've put in the due diligence of saving, climbing the proverbial ladder, and surviving the bedlam of child-rearing. Best of all, we're not as nearsighted as we used to be. We know who we are, what we want, and how to get it.

I love this phase of my life. I'm investing a lot more time into working out and prioritizing people. How are you spending your middle years?
